About Worship

In the Divine Liturgy, we truly ascend Holy Mount Zion, which is the holy altar, to drink deeply and be delighted with the abundance of God’s glory, which is His Son Jesus. To Him be glory forever and ever, Amen! We read in the Apology to the Augsburg Confession that “God wants to be worshiped through faith so that we receive from Him those things He promises and offers” (Apology of the Augsburg Confession, IV.49). We believe and teach that true worship is receiving from God His promised gifts of life, salvation, and the forgiveness of all of our sins. We then respond with thanks and praise for these wonderful and priceless gifts. If you are new to liturgical and sacramental churches, there will be a learning curve, and that is okay! We will help you adjust. And just like with anything worthwhile and meaningful in life, it will take time. We don’t expect everyone to completely understand the liturgy at first, but we can help you understand the theological depth and meaning behind it all through conversations and experience.

Worship Form

Worship is not about style or preferences. It is about theology. And every style of worship communicates something theologically. Here at All Saints Lutheran Church, we gladly use the historic liturgies of the Church. In doing so we are insulated from the changing whims of styles and trends and can stay anchored to God’s Word and how God comes to us in Word and Sacrament. True doctrine united to faithful practice. As the early church put it, lex orandi, lex credendi. The law of prayer is the law of belief; which is to say, how we worship impacts how we believe and how we believe impacts how we worship. Doctrine and practice create a mutually reinforcing loop. When one veers from God’s timeless truth, the other soon will follow. By embracing the scriptural, liturgical, and creedal inheritance of the church, the Gospel and Sacraments are safeguarded for us and can be received with joy and fidelity for generations to come. We use the Lutheran Service Book for our services.

Communion Practice

In accord with the practice of the historic church, we practice closed communion, that is, it is our desire that all people would commune with us, but out of high regard for the Lord’s Word, we believe that unity in teaching comes before unity in communion. If you are not a member of a Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod congregation or one of our sister churches, we ask, therefore, that you would refrain from communion until the Pastor has a chance to sit down and talk with you to explain our confession and hear yours. Please speak with the pastor if you have any questions. More information on the practice of closed communion can be found here.

We hope to see and meet you very soon!
